Thanks all.  This is fantastic to have all this info.  Rita, my gran said she was adopted.  Edward Stevens I think died in 1930 aged 52.  Then Sarah Elizabeth re married and became Calloway.
You’re right about adoption not being legal until 1925 so there might be no record of this adoption?
