Oh wow, this is exactly the one I was looking for, and  it is the first time I have seen the name Sandy in print.  This must be Alexander as the only family I know of is a wife and adopted daughter

It may be worth contacting the Northern Echo to see if they could send you a good copy of the photo, or maybe put you in contact with the photographer or his sister mentioned in the article.

EDIT.  Having said that, it doesn't make sense that the photographer of a 100 year old photo or his sister would still be alive - even though the article is 2016.  Maybe Peter Lane just owns the photo.

There is a postcard for sale on Ebay of Church Street which shows the pub (just beyond the child on the bicycle)

My neice got married in that church, I remember taking photos of what was still a pub, in fact before I knew anything about it, must be thirty plus years ago she and I got very drunk in there, I was over there visiting, she had just got her degree

Good day Andi, not sure how old your post or messages are, however I am attempting to find a pub in Crook, probably on Church street that was ran by my great grandparents Samuel and Elizabeth Binns around 1900-1904? Any assistance would be appreciated.

Hi Paul, do you have Samuel in the 1901 census? The only mention I can find of what may be him is on the electoral roll in 1906 in Church Street.
When and where was he born?

I do not but do have that Electoral one on Church st. He was born 13 Feb 1866 Egton Bridge at St. Hedda Catholic church. They moved around a bit and traveled back and forth between 1900-1910 to the States.

Are you sure about his birth date? Looking Samuel up on  FindMyPast  I get his birth as 16 Feb 1866 and baptism as 18 Feb 1866 at St Hedda. Residence not given. 1871 census gives his birthplace as Eskdaleside.
However I can find no information relating to anyone called BINNS at a Pub in Crook between 1900 and 1910.

PS - added a photo of Hollins Cottages I took some 20 years ago. Your Samuel lived there once.
