Presentation of Military Cross from Field Marshal Montgomerie
« on: Monday 17 August 20 11:58 BST (UK) »
A friends father, Major Donald Macintyre was presented with his Military Cross on 7th September 1944 by Field Marshall Montgomerie . At the time of the action for which he was awarded the medal he was with the 5th. South Staffordshire Regiment. At the time of his presentation he was awaiting his transfer to the 2nd Seaforth Highlanders which occurred one week later on the 14th September.
Where should I look for any photograph of the presentation?
I have found that 'Monty' was in Brussels that day en route to his HQ.
Any advice or information gratefull received and will be passed on to his son.
Major Macintyre was subsequently seriously wounded in February 1945 near Goch and repatriated to the UK.
We believe that all recipients were photographed being presented with their award and his son would dearly love to get a copy.
Many thanks
Baird

My advice would be to contact the appropriate Regimental Museum.

Transcriptions and NBI are merely finding aids.  They are NOT a substitute for original record entries.

Many thanks BumbleB but I'm afraid there was no joy with either South Staffs or Seaforths.

Thanks again , Baird

Thankyou very much Jebber for the lead. His son already has the citation . He also has a letter from his fathers' C/O in the 5th South Staffs  dated 9th September 1944 which was sent to Major Macintyres mother. It states that he was presented with the medal(Ribbon) on 7th September 1944 by Field Marshal Montgomerie.
We shall continue to search.
Thanks again,
Baird
