Interesting that you have 2 typical Welsh surnames, Jones and Roberts. My "Welsh" ancestors, Davies and Jones were in the vicinity of Wigan 200 years ago. They weren't miners.

There are more than that we have EVANS THOMAS PRICE.

Too the ancestors of the ROBERTS ladies were JONES  originally from llanorman flint Wales  farmers innkeepers butchers and miners !

I've just been told there was also a George CORNTHWAITE born 1908
To Emma Roberts and James CORNTHWAITE

I can't find any of them in 1911
Could they have returned to South Africa ? Or is the name mistranscribed somewhere

Trying to sort out origins of James CORNTHWAITE b 1875

So far have ruled out James with mother Sarah coward father George iron miner

The only other gro refs are James CORNTHWAITE b Dec 1874 Bradford mother Morledge vol 96 page 143

From baptism s of possible siblings father was James a wood Sawyer

I think he died as baby Apr may June 1875

An Eleanor Clapham b 1849 m Thomas Worthington CORNTHWAITE on 18 April 1874
His mother is cited on wedding banns as Mary CORNTHWAITE.

If this is correct James he was christened in 1875 Grange near Carmel

Update the daughters Mary E  Dorothy were born in Pietermaritzburg natal south Africa
& There was a still birth in 1909
In south Africa too

The parents were not married until 1915 when James Cornthwaite was diagnosed with TB so probably in order for Emma to get widows pension
No records found in south Africa for the births but the children were baptized with surname Cornthwaite on return
The last child born over a year after James death
May have been child of Emma's future husband Fred SMITH

1 grandchild was very shocked to find that the grandmother had had births before and after marriage . Other grandchildren refused to believe it at the time .
