Thats very true amongd unless he was married to someone else not free to marry Emma

I did wonder if Emma ever used her maiden name for herself and daughters Dorcas .Mary Elizabeth and Dorothy/ Dorothea

Also I thought maybe Emma she stayed with one of her 9 siblings in 1911 .

James Cornthwaite could have been married to someone else so Id have to look for a mrs Cornthwaite dying around 1915 & freeing him up to marry .

Ive just found another clue for james Cornwaithe
In 1901 he is single a coal miner b Barrow on Furness working below ground ..boarding at 119 Bag Lane Atherton

Most likely candidate because Emma was living with her parents + some siblings  in 1901 no. 1 Bag Lane
 
Working as a coal picker above ground

"Military records for James Cornthwaite shows him enlisted from 28 aug 1915 to 1 april 1916 wife emma of  39 Adelaide street Bolton"

The form which seems to be for a grant for a James Cornthwaite died 17/3/17 of TB names wife Emma as of 28 Northfield St Bolton £5 grant approved 6/7/20. case approved by letter 20/7/20

I ruled out another Miner called James CORNTHWAITE  b 1875 who married Emily Ellis in 1900

Martha Ann married William Tootil in 1957. Corrrection 1967( thanks Ann)

Martha was baptised 18/10/1922 b 15/4/1916 daughter of james and Emma coal hewer of 28 Mortfield Street Bolton (cf the FOLD3 record). Could be a mistranscription of Northfield or vice versa.

And have two potential sons for him

 I dont know where he and Emma Roberts  & the eldest 3 were in 1911 and havent found baptisms for Dorcas .Leonard or Frank.

I hope I get replies from the people I contacted with trees or dna connection

Emma Robets was my mothers second cousin ..emmas  mother Dorcas Jones married at 15 & had 15 children  ive tried looking at all her siblings and building up their trees but with Surname ROBERTS mmn JONES its not easy

Her brother Edwin also a miner may have gone to South Africa too at one point .
