Yes he died 17 march 1917 widow Emma on ww1 pension list
Which shows he must have been well enough to join army .
Those death identity names dont match any on my tree but thanks so much for providing a reference with an easy click  attachment

I cant see a section for births in the SA records ...and dont know where they.lived to know which section to look under .
The list of deaths is a great research tool for anyone who has got a death in SA
Its good because it names survivors including theur previous marriied names

Pam
Extra thanks for this link
Ive used it to search for my grandma s adoptive family
The elder brothers went to south Africa when she was a baby

Found deaths
 divorces
An adultery case

And I think a property dispute which may lead me to living relatives

Apparently there was a trip back to England each time a baptism was needed

Not done too well on south African searches so far
I did find one record of a female still birth in Nov 1908 to CORNTHWAITE j and e ROBERTS
But have been told they also had a son George in 1908  haven't found his baptism

The couple and children were in South Africa in 1911.

You wont find Census records for South Africa anywhere - they routinely destroy the forms once the data is aggregated, you probably need to look for Directories - like Braby's to see if the family appears. Civil birth records can only be obtained from the Local authorities or at the Archives - they have not been filmed by familysearch. The best bet for birth records are the church records, if the family is Anglican than you can find most Diocese records online at familysearch. If Methodist there are some but the bulk are held at the Cory Library in Grahamstown, the DRC and Reformed church records are on-line at familysearch. For most other denominations you need to approach the relevant churches

Thanks Gillian .
If the family returned to England for baptisms I'm unlikely to find records.
As I'm now in touch with a relative who has looked at some south African records .+ Has personal knowledge of the family .I,LL see what information she has .
