Do you have the marriage certificate for Josiah John Cato to Ellen Burch ? if so does it give his age and his fathers name ..

Had a look on https://www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk/ for Josiah John Cato born in Girvan, the only one I could see was born in 1875:

Josiah John Cato born 26th December 1875 Parents:Jessie Ensor Cato, gentleman and Jeannie Goudie?. Married 19th July 1867, Otago, New Zealand.

I think this Josiah John ends up in Milwaukee, USA. He first appears on 1910 Census Port Huron, Michigan as Joseph Cato, Scottish and an engineer. He's also on 1920/1930 Census Milwaukee. He applied for naturalization 15th November 1916. Date of birth 26th December 1877. Date and Port of arrival: 1st April 1910 Port Huron.
He dies June 1930 in Milwaukee.

So if we can get the details of Josiah Cato/Ellen Burch as suggested by rosie17, it may confirm this is the missing Josiah snr.
