James Cowan (born c.1814) Marriage.
« on: Friday 21 August 20 12:17 BST (UK) »
So far without success, I have been looking for the Irish roots of my Great Grandfather, James Cowan, born c. 1814. He married an Ellen Broadbent in Liverpool in 1842, and the record gives his father's name as Phillip.
Another Ancestry members' family tree has thrown up the same James as been married in County Down to 'Jane' (1806-1841). I have a death of Jane Cowan in Liverpool in 1841, so, if correct, James would have been free to marry a year later.
I would be grateful if anyone could find the marriage in Co. Down, and any other information regarding  the Cowans. Thank you.

Unfortunately civil registration of marriage didn't start until 1845 (for non-Catholic & Registry Office ones but 1864 for Catholic marrages) so you need to see if a church record survives.

Added- previous topic was only started in March this years and has posts  :-\
