How do I find land records in 1800s

To my surprise the tithe map of Iron Acton states my ancestor Aaron Edwards was a freeholder of a tiny piece of land in Patch Elm Lane.  Could anyone tell me how I go about finding out when he purchased the land and what happened to it?  He doesn't seem to have left a will when he died in 1864.
