Mary Sharp or Thorp?
« on: Wednesday 26 August 20 23:44 BST (UK) »
Hello

I'm looking for the parents of Mary Sharp.

She marries John Miles, Farmer, son of John Miles of Heanley Hall, Warwickshire, on 21 Jan 1782 by License at Stoke Golding.
She is listed as 'Mary Sharp, Spinster, aged 21, of Stoke Golding which had been her abode for some years'. They are married by consent of Johns father as John Jr is under age at 19 years old.
Given the baptism of John, this seems to be accurate so I would ''Assume'' that Mary's age is also accurate but I can find no Mary Sharp fitting her.
She signs her name as Mary Sharp on the marriage record.

Mary is buried 1812 Stoke Golding, aged 54 with a birth date of 1758.

There is a baptism in Market Bosworth in 1762 for a Mary Shorp, daughter of William and Mary, but I think this surname is actually 'Thorp' and has been mis-transcribed. The 'S' is the same as a letter 'T' further down the register.

Any help appreciated.

P.S. - Sorry I mis read your post.

There are several Sharps with the same parents in Appleby Magna, which is not too far away.

I had seen the Appleby Sharps but wasn't sure.
There was a Mary Sharp baptised 1755 in Desford which is about 8 miles away from Stoke Golding.

There was also a Mary baptised in Claybrooke in 1760, which in just over 9 miles from Stoke Golding, daughter of John and Mary. Also a brother, John, in 1758.

Probably the children of John and Mary, nee Bowers, who were married there in 1756.
