Without getting all gory if his death was a result of a crime and the body had to be kept until after the trial could that explain things?
James Stott c1775-1850. James was born in Yorkshire but where? He was a stonemason and married Elizabeth Archer (nee Nicholson) in 1794 at Ripon. They lived thereafter in Masham. If anyone has any suggestions or leads as to his birthplace I would be interested to know. I have searched for it for years without success. Thank you.

To be honest I also thought the same and maybe thought there was something a miss, but as he died of natural causes I can't think of why it would take so long to bury or cremate him.

I would doubt that he was being 'preserved' prior to burial for that long.  Maybe the burial records are wrong.  Was there an obituary

Same here...I think the burial record is wrong. I don't think there was an obituary and I have never been able to find one which doesn't help  :'(

Have you tried online burial sites such as

https://www.findagrave.com/

https://www.deceasedonline.com/

for the latter you will probably have to pay to see results in detail but you should still be able to search to see if there are any results. Also I believe the latter includes both burials and cremations.

NB: Both sites are not complete but worth a try ?

Yeah I use 'findagrave' quite a bit and have had some good successes with it, but sadly not with the relatives I need :( I have not used 'deceasedonline' but it's worth a look so thank you for the info :)
