Covid statistics
« on: Thursday 27 August 20 17:45 BST (UK) »
I am a bit baffled by the various statistics I am seeing. I have been watching the Gov.UK site for several weeks and it has been showing very few confirmed cases in East Kent, now I hear on the news that the East Kent Hospitals Trust is in trouble because of a high number of infections in the hospitals. (I am not clear if this is still the case.) Do hospital acquired infections not get into the statistics?
I have also seen a site posted by a cousin, intelligent and well-read, which also seems to show higher rates. This is "Covid symptoms study" which is a rather different sort of site, and shows estimated cases per million. Looked at carefully it is possible to find a more sensible number, but it looks frightening.

The news story on the bbc seems to be about historic rates of infection in July in east Kent.
Back in the news as it has been visited by inspectors recently.

Personally I take all statistics with a pinch of salt :)

Fear not. "More or Less" is back on Radio 4, Wednesday mornings, repeated Friday afternoons.  :)
