Mary Victoria Bell b 1897 Edinburgh
« on: Friday 28 August 20 07:58 BST (UK) »
1901 census has her with Samuel Bell 55, Margaret Bell 42, John P Muir 44 and William Muir 38.
1911 census she is listed as Adopted Daughter of John and Helen McConnochie.
There is no Birth, Death or marriage record in Scotlandspeople although in the census birth was Edinburgh.

The is  a birth in Edinburgh, correct year, for a Mary Victoria Ormond, illegitimate to Mary Ormond,  now domiciled in Kirkwall according to the certificate.   There is no listing in the 1901 or 1911 census.   However I can trace her birth to marriage and death all with Mary Ormond as mother (no father)

The question, is this the same person and how does one prove it or is it assumed?

Margaret Bell was a Muir born in Sanday Orkney and the others were her brothers.   The McConnochie had an other adopted child.

Have you ruled out the other Mary Bell's born at that time in Edinburgh? e.g. Mary Bell, 1897, St Giles.

St. Giles birth was to a William & Ann Bell.    It is the lack of census listing for the Ormond child and the tie with Orkney and Leith Docks that is compelling to make the match .

Hi DonnyM

What happened with the Mary Ormond you found showing as mother to Mary Victoria Ormond after Mary's birth? Have you been able to trace her movements after this?

Monica

I have not traced mother Mary in full but did find her as a possible stepdaughter along the way in Rattray aged 5.    Work in progress.

Interesting that Mary Victoria had her husbands name changed from Robert George to Robert Russell -1925 RUTHERFORD, ROBERT RUSSELL (Statutory registers Corrected Entries 685/10 008 179) (RCE).

One more little interesting genealogy thing and this is not even my ancestor.

I am considering this little problem as solved.
The Valuations roll for 1930 has John McConnochie, brother of Mary V (address is on father's death certificate as informant 1928) at 4 Hermitage Terrace Leith (not the Edinburgh one).    The 1935 and 1940 for that address has Mary V Rutherford wife of Robert Rutherford here.
