Weybridge - Borstal
« on: Wednesday 02 September 20 10:51 BST (UK) »
Hello,

I am hoping someone can help me? I have a relative who was in borstal in the late 1950's and the only information we have is his name and that he was sent to Weybridge, Surrey borstal for some time. We would like to know more information, and after a few internet searches and failures, I thought I would post on here as I have some success in the past.

Does anyone know anything about the borstal in Weybridge, or where I can search records?

Any help would be greatly appreciated....thank you :)

Thanks everyone Muffin41 and Rosie99 :)

The person I am looking for has now passed away and from what I have been told they never talked about it either. I have never thought of looking at newspapers so I will have look into that.

Thank you :)

There is a good chance that the records would be restricted under the 100 year rule.  SHC's website mentions records for Mayford (Woking) as being available online up to 1907.

I wonder where in Weybridge it was.  :-\

I did think of this, but thought there was no harm in trying to research :)

I'm not sure where the exact location is...all my relative has said is that it was Weybridge, Surrey. According to my relative the person I am looking for were there for a number of years, but I have come to realise that information that comes from family isn't always as true as they say haha.

Maybe Finnart House School, Oatlands Drive, Weybridge?
Originally opened in 1937 as Finnart House School for Jewish Boys, as a Junior Approved School.

Records, at The National Archives, are subject to a 65 year closure period.
