Eliza ? who married ? Rose about 1835
« on: Friday 04 September 20 10:33 BST (UK) »
Looking for the marriage of an Eliza to someone Rose about 1835 in Carlow, Ireland.

Eliza was a convict transported to Tasmania, Australia in 1842 for Larceny. Her trial was in April 1842 at Carlow, Ireland.

She is listed as Eliza Rose and had 3 children with her Amelia, Emily and James on the ship Waverley. Amelia was 6, Emily was 4 and James was 3.5 as they were listed in Queens Orphan School in Tasmania, Australia. She had another child to a convict man who was called Charles in 1845. Eliza married John Williams in 1852 and died in 1853 shortly after her son Samuel was born who died at 20 days old.

Any help is much appreciated.
Thanks
Stephanie.

Her convict indent says that she is a widow and that her husband John has been dead 2 years (so 1840ish)

Eliza's record shows that she had one child onboard.  The children of the female convicts on the Waverley were admitted to the orphan school on arrival in Tasmania in December 1842.  That record shows the child as Emily aged 4 (discharged April 1845)

https://stors.tas.gov.au/SWD28-1-1

Left menu - Girls page 20

I think that this is the same child who was admitted as 'Amelia' in March 1846 and said to be aged 6.

Same link as above, Girls page 27.

It is impossible for Eliza to have a son named James admitted in August 1841 as she had not yet been tried and transported.

Same link as above, Boys page 13.

Tas Archives have her arriving on the second voyage of the Waverley, Waverley (2), but she actually arrived on the third voyage, Waverley (3).
