Just an update on this Brennan family search. We have now determined that there were five children of Denis Brennan and Catherine (Kitty) Talt baptised at Rochfortbridge:

Anne bapt 7 Jul 1836
Patrick bapt 1 May 1839
Bridget bapt 7 Feb 1842
Catherine bapt 14 May 1844
Denis Junior bapt 31 Aug 1846.

Anne married Michael Gaffney and their granddaughter Mary Gaffney married Thomas Egerton at Kinnegad in 1921. We have been in touch with the great granddaughter of Mary and Thomas, [living person name removed] and she has told us a lot, particularly about the Egertons. She has also given us a family wedding photo with Thomas and Mary and their six sons and six daughters-in-law, all identified. This branch of the family stayed around Mullingar, particularly The Downs area. And she also gave us a gravestone for Thomas and Mary, and one of their sons and his wife, in Coralstown Cemetery.

Bridget emigrated to the US and we have been in touch with some of her descendants, including a 96-year-old great granddaughter of Bridget Brennan who is still sharp as a tack and very interested in family history.

Catherine emigrated to Australia and we are her descendants, so we have that branch covered.

We have had no luck with either brother, however, beyond the baptisms. (Just to hand: It seems Patrick Brennan married Ellen Conlan on 18 Feb 1860 at Rochfortbridge. Witnesses James Conlan and Bridget Power.)

The two possible Patrick Brennans in 1901 Census and 1911 Census are single men: Patrick Brennan, aged 61, living at Wattstown, Portloman, in 1901 with his nephew; Patrick Brennan aged 69, a farm servant, single, living with a couple at Killenlahan, Middleton in the 1911 Census.

There is no suitable Denis Brennan in either Census.

So the girls are well covered but the boys remain a mystery. I was wondering if anyone had any ideas for how we can proceed from here?

All help gratefully appreciated,
Geoff
