Have you checked the passenger list for the Drummond Castle - not helpful is it?

Mold came under the Holywell RD

19 marriages for a Thomas Hughes in that RD between 1885-1893.  If they emigrated after marriage and she was returning home with a child in 1896 I suspect any marriage was earlier than 1895

Wonder whether there was any report in one of the Mold newspapers at that time?

Hi,

I wonder if there might be a memorial in the local cemetery?

I found an article in the North Wales Times, June 20 1896, page 8.  It talks about the tragedy that has befallen the household of Mr William Hughes, cattle dealer.   The gist of it is....The wife and only son (6 months old) of William's eldest son Thomas Hughes of Cape Town, died on the Drummond Castle.   Thomas Hughes emigrated to the Cape about 6 years ago and got married some time afterwards.  Mrs Hughes came from Northampton and had emigrated to Cape Town where she supervised the dressmaking department of a large establishment.  She intended on returning to the Cape and had booked her passage.

It sounds from this that the marriage took place in South Africa.
