Eugene Alfred Corri : Stockbroker/ Boxing Referee
« on: Thursday 10 September 20 15:10 BST (UK) »
I have been researching my family ancestry for just 2 or 3 years now, mainly through my Maternal line of Corri. I had come across 'Eugene Corri Boxing referee in UK and USA' in my searches but had dismissed him, as I had never heard any family stories about him.
My G/Father and Grand Uncle were in WW1 and there were reports in newspapers and books saying that their cousin Eugene Patrick Corri aged just 16 died in the Great War. But I could never fit Eugene into my three. Who were his parent's?
Then I stumbled upon an article on Boxing Monthly 'Eugene Corri 17 year old son of well known boxing referee.............   has fallen a victim to the u-boat horror's the youngster was a splendid boxer.....
http://www.boxingmonthly.com/stories/a-giant-for-his-years-the-tragic-tale-of-toodles-corri/
But hang-on : I already had Eugene Alfred Corri in my tree; born 1862 the youngest of 10 children of Patricus Corri and Mary Jane Woulds
So one or two Eugene Alfred Corri's?

April 16 1891 Eugene Alfred Corri marries Madeline Sidney Hussey Fulham, London, England
1892 : Dennis Roughton Corri born Fulham, London, England
1901 Census : He is with Madeline and Dennis
1901 Census : enter Edna Warendorph single, from Minesota
1902 BMD born Eugene Patrick Corri Warendorph
1903 born Philip Corri Warendorph
1904 born Sydney D C Warendorph

In 1909 Dennis Ralph Corri is joining the Household Cavalry on short service. And in 1910 he is at the Quebec -Vermont border en-route to Seattle Washington

After that I cannot Find Dennis Corri.
Or his mother Madeline Sidney Hussey after the 1901 census.

Any Thoughts?

To add to the mix... Eugene Albert Corri wrote his memoirs 'Thirty Years a Boxing Referee' in 1915  he said' I am a Londoner out and out with a tincture of Irish thrown in. Half a century ago I was born at Highgate and thirty years of my life .........'

Page 85: 'My father, being a baritone singer in the Carl Rosa Opera Company, conceived the idea that Corri would read more professional-like than 'Corry', the name he inherited from his parents.

I don't have a WW Ancestry sub but it's showing several newspaper snippets from 11.2.1915 Fort Wayne News Indiana  "Eugene Corri official referee - sporting club London" up to 1933

The many friends of Mr Eugene Corri will be pleased to learn that his son Dennis. lately a very useful member of the Stock Exchange Boxing Club is prospering in Seattle, Washington, where he will have many opportunities of using the "mitts" which seems to run in the blood.
