Which Captain Carswell?
« on: Saturday 19 September 20 10:17 BST (UK) »
Pipe Major William Laurie of the 8th Argylls wrote a tune dedicated to Captain Carswell. Can anyone identify which Captain Carswell the tune was named after ?

Many thanks,

Possibly and Probably Named after this fellow.
8lh Battalion, Princess Louise's (Argyll and
• 'Sutherland Highlanders);
Quartermaster and
Honorary Captain .
Archibald Carswell, junr.,
• is granted the honorary, rank of Major,
dated13th November,. 1908. .

London Gazette

From Lawrie's Death notice  in the Oban Times,
Quote"‘Pipe-Major Laurie composed many tunes — piobaireachds, marches, strathspeys and reels. His ‘Lament for the late Lord Archibald Campbell’ is considered to be a masterpiece of the day, and he played it before the ducal party at Inveraray Castle a few years ago."

Carswell seems to have been mis-written as Campell.
