Roobarb, like Caroline, I empathise with you over this situation. It must be very annoying to feel that you are being prohibited from having this friend over. Surely, just having the occasional companionship of one friend shouldn't be too much to ask, after all this time. I think they should be more clamping down on people who are partying.
I was on the bus the other day and overheard a conversation that the bus driver was having with a passenger. Passenger was sitting at the front and the driver was in his cab as they conversed back and forth. The driver sounded frustrated about this ongoing situation as I heard him say .. "I'm allowed to drive a busload of people around every day and yet I can't see my son!" The woman said that in her household they are socially distancing by each eating on their own at the table at different times. The driver said "To pot with that!"
I have read your recent comments about people volunteering to be infected with the virus in order to test a new vaccine. How altruistic is that! I would imagine they would have to be very fit and healthy and they will get paid a lot for this. However, I am amazed too that anyone would do this. Yes, what would we do without them.
Caroline, I continue to be totally in awe of how much you have worked to help others with your sewing. The rainbow scrubs sound lovely - I think these will feel quite uplifting to wear and to see. A rainbow design sounds so cheerful and will be a visible message of hope.
Mowsehowse, I am now trying too not to use public toilets after I have read there can be risk in this. Occasionally, I have though. I have seen notices up stating that toilets are available at your 'own risk' and that you should put the seat lid down before flushing so that there isn't circulation up into the air.
Hope you enjoyed your blustery walk yesterday and also hope the quote isn't too expensive. Fancy that person showing up at your house without a mask!
I haven't read Pepys, so I can't compare. Perhaps he might just be over-rated.
My day yesterday:
Grey sky initially (although the sun came out for a spell later on) and very blustery. It really feels like Autumn has kicked in as it is quite cold and leaves are peppering the lawns and skittering around the street in the wind. In the morning I checked emails and went on Rootschat. I paid some bills. I also went for a walk through a local cemetery and took some more photos for Find A Grave and then called at the supermarket near to the cemetery for some essentials. At the supermarket, the breast screening unit which has been there for many years has now gone. (My much older, and now deceased sister had once asked them why this was in the car park of a supermarket and they explained that women tend to view this as more low key and less daunting than having to visit a hospital and that they will be more likely to attend appointments in this everyday environment.)
I wonder if this will now mean that I will now have to go to a hospital for my screening check when it is due again next year? Or will the screening be put on hold and postponed as my dental appointments have been?
In the afternoon, I did a bit of pottering on jobs around the house and also got the garden recycling bin topped up a bit ready to be put out for collection on Saturday. It then started to rain. I did a little more work on removing paper templates from my quilt - I am just doing a little bit here and there so it feels like this is taking forever. Home pizza for tea followed by a couple of cups of tea. I was going to have a yoghurt for dessert but then forgot to have it. Had a quiet evening as well before bed. Added a few more photos on Find A Grave (have managed to 'fulfill' one person's photo request today) and did some reading.
