This gets very confusing!
There are 2 separate organisations, and 2 artists called Arthur Miles!

The Royal Watercolour Society was founded in 1804. Members use the postnominal letters RWS.
The Royal Institute of Painters in Water Colours can be traced back to 1831. Members use the postnominal letters RI.
(there was a schism in 1831!)
Both organisations still exist today.

Arthur Miles, active 1851-1879.
Arthur Miles, active 1960's - c. 1976

All too complicated! The muster actually fits the gossip, but that has no place her. Again, thank you. X

This may be of interest, a probate record:-

MlLES Arthur Henry of Tregarth Gwaelod-y-garth Taffs Well Mid Glam died 28th December 1987 Administration Llandaff 29 February £71309

Death??

MILES, ARTHUR  HENRY     1905
GRO Reference:  DOR  Q1/1988 in TORBAY  (4221C)  Volume 21  Page 2608

As the death was late in December a March quarter registration would be usual.

Perhaps Arthur was staying in Torbay for Christmas when he died??

Good work Girl Guide. He left a tidy sum and the will should reveal quite a lot for a mere £1.50 - spouse, who he left it to (those sons of first marriage mentioned?) and profession. Per other threads they're arriving quite quickly now.

Can anybody find Valerie's death record?

Please note that it says Administration not probate, so no will left.

Definition of Administration

A letter of administration is an official document that gives the person named in the letter the legal right to access the assets, money and property of a person who’s died without a will, pay their remaining taxes and settle their debts.

If the person named is a family member then fine, but if not it may not help.

K definitely the later name. Did the photo I posted with Arthurs writing mentioning John Constable come through?

Sorry Girl Guide I misread that. Presumably no will because everything left to a living wife? Probate record will give her name IIRC?

I forgot to mention I got nowhere with sister Hazel's marriage to a Biggs. No Sweet-Biggs marriages that way round at all, though there are births including 1921 Cardiff. A second marriage, or a half-sister, or never took place?

Hazel married a local man in Gwaelod y Garth. He died after a very short time. Months, possibly. She lived with Valerie at Tregarth before and after Arthur Miles, with a period away from this address. She was also Miss Sweet.
