Hi
I am trying to locate Alfred Arnold born in 1870 in Surrey he died in 1942. He may have served in the military during Ww1 but not sure. Any help would be great

It would help us if you mentioned where in Surrey he was born and where he died. I presume that you have him on census

“May have served in the military during WW1”
Any evidence to support that? He was 44 when WW1 started.
Over 60% of WW1 service records were burnt during the WW2 blitz. Have you checked Ancestry/FindMyPast to see whether there is a record for him or a Medal Roll Index card?
90 entries on the MRI for the name Alfred Arnold though many have middle initials
57 entries on the service records index
EDIT
If he was b Newington then he wasn’t born 1870 - did you check freebmd? Birth in march qtr 1869 so also a possibility he was born late 1868
