Josiah/Josias Warner c.1640 - Great Dunmow
« on: Saturday 03 October 20 13:11 BST (UK) »
Hello all,

I am looking to get some more information about Josiah (or Josias) Warner.  He was (one of) my 9x Gt Grandfathers.

As far as I know, he was married to a lady called Elizabeth and they had two children - Mary (1662) and Josias (1663).  I believe this Elizabeth died in 1669.  I haven't found any further children for them, or a marriage.

Josiah/Josias then got married in 1673 to another Elizabeth (Pauslin).  I have found no children for them.  I believe this Elizabeth died in 1691.

I would like to find a birth and death record for Josiah/Josias and hopefully add another generation further back to my tree.  My Warner line stayed in Dunmow until the 1880s, so were around a long time, but maybe Josiah/Josias came from elsewhere?

Any help would be gratefully received!

Many thanks,
Emma

There are several records of Warner in Great Dunmow in Seax, including these wills:

John Warner of Great Dunmow, clothier 1638
Geoffrey Warner of Great Dunmow, husbandman, 1639
Thomas Warner of Great Dunmow, 1676

Also an Apprenticeship bond between Josias Warner of Great Dunmow, yeoman and Anne, daughter of John Warner of Dunmow deceased, in 1662

Thank you very much for those dates.  Sad about Mary, but not unusual, I suppose.

Are there likely to be records further back?

Do you have the will  of Thomas warner 1676

Seems his wife Margaret gets everything for the rest of her life and she is to pay 10 pounds to Jeffrey son of John Warner every year?
After her death all lands etc. go to Josias son of Josias Warner of Much Dunmow
After her death Mary Warner's 2 children and John (King?) youngest son of my wife get money as does Josias Warner the elder, plus child of Jeffrey Warner.

He must have married a widow with children

Just a quick look

Thanks for the information on Thomas Warner's will.  Will need to try and tie everyone in!

Will also need to start saving for a subscription!
