St Paul's Church Shadwell and the Joyner family
« on: Monday 05 October 20 17:05 BST (UK) »
Is anyone familiar with the records for St Paul's, Shadwell in the 1700s? I just wondered how complete or reliable they are.

I have identified (on FindMyPast) three children born to John and Deborah Joyner 1852, 1856 and 1858.  The last was Thomas Joyner an ancestor, but I can find no trace of a marriage for John and Deborah, nor her death. According to Thomas's baptism record John was a Ballastman. He was possibly born 1723 or 1734 in Shadwell but I don't have much to go on other than that - there seem to have been quite a few Joyners working in that trade.

Any thoughts much appreciated.

I guess you meant to say the children born to John and Deborah Joyner 1852, 1856 and 1858, were 1700s?

St Paul's, Shadwell – Ancestry

Records 1670 – 1812 most of the ones I have looked at are in very good order.

Registers in the early 1700s
Marriages in r. 1698-1753
Baptisms 1712- 1736
Burials 1707 - 1736

I could not find the marriage to Deborah on a general search,
I did find more baptisms for a John and Mary, I just wondered if Deborah was a second marriage.

Thomas Joyner   Baptism   31 May 1741   St Paul, Shadwell, Tower Hamlets, Middlesex   ,

Father John a Ballastman of Cow Lane & Mary and others same 1721 – 1738

Colin
Clarke, Trickett, Orton, Lawless, Norton, Detheridge, Kirby, Goodfellow, Wagstaff, Lowe, etc.

On the other hand the earlier births I mentioned father a Ballastman, could be the parents of the John you seek?

John Joyner   Baptism   9 Jun 1723 St Paul, Shadwell, Tower Hamlets, Middlesex John & Mary

Plus
Anne Joyner   Baptism   4 Jun 1721
Mary Joyner   Baptism   10 Jan 1724
Thomas Joyner   Baptism   21 Aug 1738

There was another couple same name in the period, that John was a Carver.
