PPs. I can’t read the first name of the witness. Someone Suckling, her father’s name was John, and it could be that is what is written. I can’t read the name under that one at all.

Can't read the second witness.

If you have quite a few ancestors in Essex, then yes it is worth subscribing.  You can get short subscriptions which is a little more reasonable. Make sure you have prepared your lookup list in advance to get your money's worth.
Please acknowledge when a restorer works on your photos, it can take hours for them to work their magic

Please scan at 300dpi minimum to help save the restorers eyesight.

Is it a recognised form of shortening the names? Why don't they just write out the correct name in full please?

Yes, many names are shortened in the same manner, depends who is the scribe.

Saml=Samuel, Nathl=Nathaniel, Michl=Michael are other examples, there are many more.

ps I can see Samuel Glasscock now its been mentioned  ;D
