Hi Colin, Very many thanks and I'll try and confirm the dates but I believe circa 1870's. Sadly the house in Bailey Hill seem to only have names and not numbers so I'll have a challenge finding the exact house.
A stamp distributor was I suppose of some importance?
The 1861 census shows his wife as a shop keeper and the is another challenge to find what that is about. He was a builder and other roles and perhaps building materials were sold?

Thanks again for your help.

Mark

Perhaps as I believe they had the Coffee Tavern on Bailey Hiil which I presume was at their home she calls herself a shop assistant.

I wonder if anyone can offer any further thoughts advice regarding Silas.
Where can I find him on the 1851 census?
Why as a builder/carpener did he move to Bath, where he married. Perhaps it was to do with quarrying (family connections with stone cutting/mason/building) or working on Prior Park House in Bath that was badly burnt the year before their marriage.
Why was his daughter Frances (Barber) born in Bristol in 1857. Both Silas and his wife Mary Ann were committed temperance supporters and although he attended meetings in Bristol from Castle Cary it would be unlikely for his heavily pregnant wife to have attended at that time. The 1891 shows Frances living with her parents in Castle Cary as a grocer (not employed) suggesting she was using the shop at that time.  Another puzzle regarding Silas' wife Mary Ann. The 1861 shows her as a shop keeper (no doubt the shop at their property) and by 1881 her occupation was toy warehouse. Silas had been a carpenter and possibly wooden toys were being made and sold. Thanks for any thoughts regarding anything raised.

Rosie, very many thanks as I couldn't find. I knew he ran the Coffee Tavern from around 1843 AND IT IS GOOD TO KNOW THAT IT WAS STILL GOING THEN. tHANKS mARK
