Have you looked for his birth registration on the GRO index as that should give his mothers maiden surname  https://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/Login.asp

We are not allowed to do 1911 look ups, have you found him on there

Do you know his full birthdate?  Did he have a middle name?

2 x 1908 Gateshead births on freebmd both in the December qtr 1908 but one was William Thomas

His marriage cert should show his fathers name and occupation

Birthyears on census entries are determined by the child's age at that time.  A birth in late 1908 would mean the child was 2yrs old when the census was taken in 1911.  Arithmetically - 1911 - 2 gives a birthyear of 1909

He was born in 1908 and his mother's name is Burns.
I was wondering if there are any relatives on here to get further?
My other question would be  how do i find out where William and Elizabeth Burns/Reed is buried?

Use the 1911 census details given above to establish parents birthdates then use freebmd to find their deaths. www.freebmd.org.uk

How do you know his parents were William & Elizabeth?  The only Reeds/Burns marriage in Gateshead is John & Elizabeth as per my 1911 link above? 

Would suggest you look for William b 1908 on the 1939 register to establish his exact birthdate.  His marriage cert will give you his fathers name.

I can tell you there is no match on the 1939 register in Durham to a birth registration in the Dec qtr of 1908 but there is one entry in Northumberland

You need to give more info as to where William fits into your FH as you could end up researching the wrong family

Carol W. you are right, father's name is John Reed but actually Robert John Reed 1863-1929 and Eliz, Burns/Reed 23.12.1869-1926.
They are the parents of William Reed 1908 - 1981.
Looking to find the graves of John Robert and Elizabeth Reed and any relatives would be a bonus. Very many thanks for your help.
