RAF New Zealand
« on: Wednesday 21 October 20 16:39 BST (UK) »
Could anyone tell me how to search records of men who served in the RAF in WWII? Man concerned allegedly came from New Zealand. Any advice as to which website would provide most info - don't mind paying subscription but this is the first NZ ancestor (well - distant inlaw!) I have encountered - and am not sure how much I've heard is anecdotal!!

Thanks for any hints.

The Auckland Museum online Cenotaph project also is a good port of call:

There was also the Fleet Air Arm

My father in law set off to england as NZVNR. New Zealand Volunteer Naval Reserve.  With a large group who all went to one of the on shore training establishments (I would have to check which one) where they sat exams with a view to being taught to fly. He failed, so stayed navy.  Others who passed were then sent to Canada to learn to fly.  And then were in the Fleet Air Arm

Anyway, the point of this is I have the passenger list, and a pre embarkation group photograph,  (not named sadly, I know who only three are). if you would like to give me his name, by PM if you wish, I could check it for you. Of course it is only one of many shiploads but you never know.

Also the newspapers mentioned promotions, injuries,  missing in action etc

Hello.

Already running late. But the authority on such matters is researcher Errol MARTYN, and his three volumnes of FOR YOUR TOMORROW.  Copies held in leading libraries around the world, and avaition interest assns.

PM me and I should be able to provide more info. He has been a great help to my research projects.

PS.  Back again, and found the article that I previously went looking for without luck.

Thank you all. I too am reliant on passenger lists, where my belief is that my uncle-in-law was from NZ (no real proof of this) but no records in the UK.  I will follow up your suggestions - I'm now almost 80 and in lockdown in the UK so I am hoping to breakdown a few brick walls in my research. Will be in touch.

Hi

Are you able to provide more details on this man? His name would be good provided he is no longer alive. I am sure the NZ rootchatters will be able to point you towards some websites. Any other details may help as well. New Zealand has historical births, marriages and deaths online which may help if his birth date is early enough.

Regards KK

Hi
Forgot to add link for the NZ births, marriages and deaths online.

https://www.bdmhistoricalrecords.dia.govt.nz/
Proving if he was from NZ would be good.
Ancestry has the NZ electoral rolls upto 1980 so if you have access you could always check these. I live in the UK and you can access this website freely through your library online.
