Fresh Windows 10 release - 20H2
« on: Thursday 22 October 20 13:16 BST (UK) »
The latest version of Windows is now released to users.

Microsoft have given up on mentioning the release month in the version number, because it is ALWAYS later than the month promised by their Marketing Department. So, this one is 20H2.

What you'll notice most is the change to the Start Menu, with changes to the background of tiles, improving contrast.

The install has been painless (though lengthy) on the 3 machines I've put it on so far. One of those is an ancient laptop from 2005 which can only run the 32-bit version, so a reasonable sample.

I'm now into double figures of 20H2 updates, if I include the virtual machine I use to waste the time of telephone scammers.

No problems yet.

Installed 22.10.20 can't see any difference, but then I barely use the Start menu.

Not available to everyone though?
I have 2 identical laptops purchased just before the Windows7 updated to Windows 10, only 1 machine announced that it was ready for the latest update.
So mine is still on version 1909 whilst other [SWMBO] on 20H2.

How long does it take, Andrew, with reasonably good speed?

Depends a lot on your hardware. This laptop, with a solid state drive but an elderly processor, took about 45 minutes. Most take around double that, but the slowest was about 2½ hours.

Once my own machine was up and running though, I didn't stand over the others.

I download the installer and run the Setup program from the USB stick.

Depending on the build version, mine was on 1909, it could take a long time to download then install.
Although I have a quick download speed [200mbps] the download was very slow 2.5hrs. :o
