              July
Alexander Shand Elder in Little Ardo
had a Child baptized, named
before Witnesses

Elder means elder as opposed to younger. It is not unusual to find incomplete records like this, where the clerk has forgotten the details or doesn't have them to hand.

                  May 26 1728
Compeared Alexr Shand and Barba
Emley both in this parish declareing ther
purposes of marriages by consigning
pledges for performance &c married June 27

The name Emley usually appears as Imlay in Methlick in the 18th century. I m descended from the Imlays in Little Ardo.

The following Methlick burial record is from my own notes:

               April 1 1785
Barbara Imlay (Relict of the de-
ceast Alexander Shand late in Arney
boggs) was buried She was on the pub
lick charity of this parish at the time
of her death
