David Ross esq from where?
« on: Monday 26 October 20 09:02 GMT (UK) »
I have struggled to decipher where David Ross is from in the attached. David died on 9 September 1844 in St Cuthbert’s Edinburgh. From what I can make of his death record (attached) he died at the New Royal Hotel Princes St Edinburgh and the cause of death was Liver Compt & other diseases. Under name and designation it has David Ross esq from _______. It is that last word that I cannot make out. I have attached most of the page that David’s record is taken from in the hope that it may assist with the transcription.

The only word I can make out of it is 'Demerara'  :

Yes it is -  see p. 87 here http://sites.rootsweb.com/~nyggbs/Transcriptions/LisaB/DeathsTrans2015.pdf penultimate entry.

Astounding! I would never have got Demerara but it looks certain that it is, Thanks JenB.
