Catherine McMeekin b1809. father James McMeekin b1791in Wigtown
« on: Tuesday 27 October 20 04:32 GMT (UK) »
Hi Wanting info on Catherine (cathrine) McMeekin born1809 Wigtown and on 14/1/1826 married Thomas Perry(b1807)

They both left and went to Australia arriving in Oct 1841. On shipping manifest as Thomas Perry (Shepherd) and Catherine (Servant) plus 4 children, James14, Catherine12, Agnes9 and Janet7.

Question can any Rootschatter tell me if there is a church or other record of their 14/1/1826 marriage in Wigtown?

AND can any one explain why in the 1841 census returns, before they left, Thomas (now 34) was in the registration district of New Luce (ref 893/5/5), while Cathrine's registration district was Abbey.

I have a record that Cathrine's father was James McMeekin b1791 Wigtown. Could anyone confirm this?
Thank you in advance. Any information much appreciated
Ken

If there is, it will be available to view on www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk, bit it is unlikely to tell you very much more about them.

It was quite common for married farm workers to live in some of the time at their place of work, which could change frequently, while the wife and children stayed in the family home.

And from the 1841 transcription on FreeCEN https://freecen1.freecen.org.uk/cgi/search.pl

In Paisley Abbey parish
George Perry, 35, born Ireland
Catherine Perry, 30, born Ireland
Richard Perry, 6, born Scotland
Mary Perry, 4, born Scotland

In New Luce
Thomas Perry, 34, born Ireland
Cathren Perry, 32 and all seven children born Wigtownshire.
Names transcribed as Christiana rather than Christiane, Cathren rather than Cathern, and Anabella rather than Anabelle. To see which is correct you'd need to view the original document at Scotland's People, but my money's on FreeCEN being more accurate than Anc.
