The possible marriage for your couple in Calstock in 1809 indicates that they did not normally reside there.

If the Ruan couple had their first child in 1807 then this is probably their marriage in 1806.

What two marriages?

The baptisms for likely children to John and Mary in Ashburton and Tavistock are free on FamilySearch.

These nankivells have always been a giant headache to try and sort out. I have a John and mary Bowden marrying in Cornwall in 1809, having children in cornwall ad I have traced that family right up till the 1900's still in Cornwall.

Then I have a John and Mary Bowden marrying in 1809 in Devon. Children born in Devon, still in Devon during the various census.
One of the Devon children married Ann Rich i Devon in 1855.

So John and  Mary Devon ones or cornwall ones, 2 separate families, I know the Cornwall John/Mary are connected to , but who are the Devon ones connected to?? They are not the same family, which is what my whole discussion is about. Going to have to have a long lie-down now,  got a shocking headache.  :D :D

Who does he name as his father when he marries?

Name/occupation

Quote
Mary 50
Nancy 15
Grace 10
Thomas 9

If Nancy and Grace are indeed siblings then there is no huge gap between children.

Nancy born 16 April 1826.
Grace born 26 May 1829.

If it helps Mary in 1851 is born Ashburton and is a widow.
Mother in law to Jane Woodman born 1821 Oreston? Devon
Hinchliffe - Huddersfield Wiltshire
Burroughs - Arlingham Glos
Pick - Frocester Glos

Start again! Thomas Nankivell is with his in-laws (the Riches) in '61 and gives PoB as "Blackdown". In '71 he repeats "Blackdown" as PoB.
Already identified in an earlier post in the '41 Census with a Thomas Nankwill, age 9 at Black Down, Mary Tavy, Tavistock, are Nancy and Grace. FindMyPast has nonconformist baptisms for the pair born Mary Tavy/Tavistock with parents John and Mary.

Head of household in '41 is Mary Nankwill, born 1791. A John Nankivell was buried Mary Tavy 10 April 1834, age 50

FindMyPast's nonconformist records has the baptism of "Thomas, the son of John Nankivel. miner, and Mary his wife, who was the daughter of William and Mary Bowden was born 27th and baptized March 11 1832". Place Tavistock.

Is this the Thomas whose parents are being challenged?

Neither of the marriages names the father, but the Ruan (BODEN) one names his sister and her future husband James Julian as witnesses.

The BAWDEN marriage also names a son Thomas born Devon 1832, (proven) and its his descendants which have John/Bawden connected through to the Cornish ones. As I said, this family is a headache.
As we are entering this family in Wikitree we would like to have the entries as correct.
Cheers
