Can you tell me about John Shand's occupation?  Look like. ???? Keeper.

Isn’t Toll Bar the place, probably a cottage, where the Shands lived and any time someone came by who had to pay a toll, (for the roads) he leapt out and asked for the payment.  (As his occupation is Toll Keeper).
