Geldenhuis Deep Mine - Entertainment
« on: Saturday 14 November 20 15:46 GMT (UK) »
My GG was William David Renshaw #800 pioneer regiment, and in 1901 was discharged, at his own request, and went to work for the Geldenhuis Deep Mine. He was there until about 1924 when he packed up the family and moved to Canada.

My Great Uncle (his son) left a memoir of his life, and with regard to his parents, he says that the children were left in care at a Natal convent and that his parents traveled South Africa showing "moving pictures". His says father owned the only movie camera in the land. Perhaps they were working in combination with the mine entertaining the workers???

If anyone has any information about the type of entertainment that was provided for workers, old pictures, event announcements, anything at all, I'd love to see/hear about it.

Thanks so much,
