Westwood House Look up
« on: Friday 20 November 20 12:48 GMT (UK) »
Seeking census data on Westwood House, Preston Road, Clayton Green, Chorley. The last known occupants surname was Finch up until the house was demolished in the early 1970's. I'm aware that previous occupants were Carrington.

Look for Richard Finch b 1880 for 1939 (Westwood House Preston Road, Bamber Bridge, Chorley R.D.)

Charles Benedict   Craven b 1869 in 1911 & 1901 (you can use familysearch)

I've found some data on the Craven family but nothing on Richard Finch other than a birth registration in 1880.

Richard Finch was the brother of my grandmother Mary Gertrude Craven (nee Finch).  He was a major in the First World War - a vet looking after the cavalry horses.  He moved into Westwood House Clayton Green with his wife, Agnes (nee Kevill) when my grandmother moved out following the death of her husband, Charles Benedict Craven. They (Charles and Mary) had six children, my father Benedict Joseph Craven was born in 1909 and was second youngest.
Richard Finch and Aggie Kevill had no children, so the house fell into disrepair in the 1970's and was sold to Chorley Council who demolished the house and redeveloped the whole site. Mary Gertrude and Richard Finch were born at Lane End House, Mawdesley which has been in the Finch family since the 1500's and still is.  Any photos would be lovely to see.

So sad!

Hello

I have just seen this thread and as a coincidence, I received a postcard today from eBay
It is addressed to Major R Finch  ;D
I am wondering what years Major Richard Finch and his family lived at "Westwood"
Was he there during WW1 and WW2?
The reason I am interested is because I am the founder of Clayton and while at War website and researching local men who served in the wars.
