J Short and sons Carshalton
« on: Tuesday 24 November 20 05:35 GMT (UK) »
J Short and Son when and where did it start
this is what I have that I found on census 1861 living at Sutton hill pitt was
John Sr Short b. 1778
 Son George Short b. 1798 and wife Elizabeth (Crocker)Short b. 1800
with two sons Isaac Short b.1844
John Short b.1826 and wife Jane (Field) Short b. 1824
William, Charles and Frank
After 1863 John senior has passed and they are all found on Westmead Farm, later after Jane Short death son Clement takes ownership of Westmead Farm until he sells it off in 1911.
The store "J Short and Son" was established in 1841 so I am assuming that John Sr Short and George started the store front but I am unable to find any proof of this or where I can look for this information.
Thanks for help

Welcome to Rootschat, Annette.

I'm sure you will have seen these pictures of the shop in Grove Road, Sutton but others may find them interesting https://pastonglass.wordpress.com/2016/02/09/inspection-of-cowsheds-invited/
