Software Help
« on: Friday 27 November 20 19:20 GMT (UK) »
Evening All
I have used Family Tree Maker 2005 for years on my old laptop with no issues.  It continued to work fine after the upgrade to Windows 10.
Just bought a new laptop, installed FTM from the disk and it wont work. The program opens but is unresponsive and freezes up.
Anyone come across this who can help?
Or can anyone recommend software which is similar and free (or cheap).
Thanks

I had the same problem, but different software. My laptop was a 7, upgraded to 8, then 8.1, then 8.2, then the biggy to 10. All my legacy software worked with each update.

I treated myself to a new laptop this year - latest Windows 10. Most of my legacy software won't work without going through a "Compatibility Settings Check", every time I use it. I think that somewhere in your settings (looks like a cog wheel) there is a way of telling it to run in compatibility mode.

If that doesn't work - the latest Family Tree Maker works excellently with Windows 10. Christmas is coming - ask for donations.
