Does any one know what the symbols written lightly in front of each name, means?
This is a membership list for the NG Kerk in 1825.
Looking at the 16th entry Isabella Almond, hoping it is a clue that might help with finding more info on her.

I assume you mean the letters and not the cross symbols?
Logically they seem to represent the first letter of the surname ...

Strange that it was done like that, the year 1824 and early there was nothing written.

So that is not a hidden clue :(
