Looks like Gavra but possibly written down wrong & probably Gravir (Grabhair)?

It may be a misspelling/mispronunciation of the following :-

Malky

I presume this is from a parish register, so which parish is it?

It would probably be helpful to know the names and dates involved - was it, for instance, late enough for them to be in a census?

No it's too early for census returns, 1825. The Registers are in Stornoway.

Could this person not still have been in Stornoway at the age of 15 or 16 then?

It is reasonable to suppose that whatever the place is, it was in the parish of Stornoway, which should help to cut down the possible options.

Could it perhaps be a poor anglicisation of Gairaha or Geiraha, which is now anglicised as Garry? It's at the north end of the parish, at the end of the road beyond Tolastadh/Tolsta. There seems to be a hyphen after the a - is there another part of the place name on the next line?

Gravir is in the parish of Lochs, not the parish of Stornoway.

It seems looking at the Register that mosy were living in Stornoway but when it says fisherman it gives, I presume, the place he is working? There are one or two examples on the page.

I haven't checked out any census returns for Donald Murray and his bride Henrietta Macleod yet. Only just found his marriage in 1825.
