In 1883 passenger list Mary nee Petherbridge is 26, therefore born about 1857.

I wonder if this is her birth? - no mothers maiden name

Just a note regarding William Henry Kinch's death.
His burial was 15-05-194 in Toowong Cemetery. In the same grave plot was buried a "Namoi KINCH" on 12-8 1935, age 70 yrs.

Hmmm!  I did see that Naomi on the Qld deaths!

With the birth of Mary Petherbridge, wonder where the name ALICE comes into it.  Or  has it  been shortened to just Alice.  There are no middle/extra names on Sids marriage certificate.  Now the question is was there a MARY MARIA Petherbridge on any census".  She should be on the 1861, 1871 etc.  Maybe the same person with three names!!  Therefore she would be about 4 ish on the 1861 Census.  Will have to go over this again I think

So William Henry Kinch and Namoi (Naomi?) looks like a married couple.  So not connected to MARY!!  Wow this is a tricky one isn't it!! Dianna

There’s a death of a William Henry Kinch 15/3/1914 in trove articles, Queensland.  Just thought I would throw that in.  I hope that the Newton Abbot poorhouse will have more on this Mary/Alice Petherbridge so I can hopefully marry all of this up.

And who is this other child

"I also found a newspaper report of a Mary Maria Alice Pethbridge in 1877, alleging that one William Uglow had not been paying maintenance for his child by her. This is obviously not Sidney, but possibly a daughter b c1874 (from another newspaper report)."  Was this child born under Petherbridge or Uglow??? So many questions, I know.  Regards Dianna

Naomi/ Namoi must be related somehow. Maybe his sister, or could be Mary with a name change?
I think you need some certificates to answer questions. To start with the Petheridge-Kinch marriage and Henry Blanks death, should give you more detail to work with.

Finding Mary in the census is tricky without knowing who her parents were.
The name Alice could have been a simple mistake. If Sid had not been living with his mother for most of his life, he may not have been sure what her name was.

If you send me a PM, I can send you the passenger list for DUKE of BUCCLEUCH arriving Nov 1883.
I find it extremely difficult to read, but could not see the name Kinch.

I cannot see the original document, but the transcription on Ancestry is surname KENCH
Mary, Wm and Sydney.
