Claude S. F. Jervis, son of the Vicar of Bures - died September 1905
« on: Thursday 10 December 20 09:05 GMT (UK) »
Because Claude was the son of the Vicar of St Mary's Church, Bures, I think it's most likely that he was interred in the churchyard. Can anyone confirm, please?

I've found two reports of his death, with slight differences - one says Essex, the other Suffolk - so I've added them both.

"The death is announced to-day of Mr Claude Scrope Fitzhardinge Jervis, son of the Vicar of Bures, St Mary, Essex, from injuries to the spine, caused by his horse falling upon him during the Boer war. He served with the Eighteenth Imperial Yeomanry."
(The Evening Telegraph [Dundee] , Thursday 14th September 1905)

"The death is announced of Mr. Claude Scrope FitzHardinge Jervis, son of the Rev. W. H. E. R. Jervis, Vicar of Bures, Suffolk, from injuries to the spine, caused by his horse falling upon him during the Boer War. He volunteered with the Sharpshooters Corps of Yeomanry, and was invalided home, retiring with the rank of Honorary Lieutenant. He was only twenty-nine years of age."
(Manchester Courier, Friday 15th September 1905)

A long article in the East Anglian Daily Times, 15th September 1905, which describes the funeral, states that he was buried at Bures Cemetery.

Bures St Mary is a village/town in Suffolk.
It sits on the River Stour.

Across the stone bridge over the river is Bures Hamlet, in Essex!
Also Mount Bures.

My Garrad family come from Bures St Mary and Bures Hamlet ;D
There is a Garrad Reading Room there.

From GenUKI:
"ST. MARY BURES, a parish in the hundred of Babergh, in the county of Suffolk, but extending also into the hundred of Hinckford, in the county of Essex"
