Breen into Brennan?
« on: Thursday 10 December 20 14:41 GMT (UK) »
I'm wondering if anyone has seen the name "Breen" turn into "Brennan?"  Or maybe the reverse?

On paper, the names seem to have a similar genesis, if one can believe the etymology.  But since both names are common on the 1901 census in Co. Kerry, it almost seems like a random change.  It is hard for me to believe that it is correct.

You’d probably need to check other things like first names, ages, occupations, places of birth etc to decide if you are looking at the same family. Also consider if what looks like a surname change might just have been an error, for example on a baptismal or marriage record, perhaps misheard or wrongly entered in the register.
