Augustine Brown
« on: Friday 11 December 20 14:37 GMT (UK) »
Could someone please point me in a direction where I might find the parents of Augustine Brown. He was born about1762 in London. At the time of his death he resided in the parish of Aldgate and was buried at Christchurch. His wife was Ann Sidney who he married in 1789.
Many thanks mdb

How do you know he was born in London?  There are no census entries to confirm this.

The only Augustine Brown I can see for that date range is one bap. Buxton, Norfolk on 6 September 1760 to parents John & Ann.

Good point!!
I think I’ve always assumed ,which I know is a no no, that all that branch of the family were born and bred Londoners.

There was a lot of movement from the countryside into the metropolis - I have a family born and bred in rural Norfolk who all migrated to London around this time.

Any clues to parents in his childrens' names.  A John or an Ann for instance?

Any known siblings for Augustine so you could look for their origins - maybe a birth in Norfolk.

Added: try the reverse and look at Browns born to John and Ann in Buxton, Norfolk around the same tme and see if any of them ended up in London.

Thank you, I will definitely look into this. The family were all carpenters by trade so could have come to London to make their fortune!
