Ah, now we all have it!
It is quite an interesting picture.

Not to be taken too seriously, honestly ;D but we are desperate, I just mention a plain Mary Boshell, widow, who married James Kelly, at St Thomas Dublin in 1850 (same church as JE married Susan in 1874)

Marriage at St Mary Dublin, 4 Feb 1875
John Minchin Whitaker, Gentleman
+
Catherine Kelly, Spinster, 97 Upper Dorset St, father James Kelly, Gentleman
Witnessed by a Mary Kelly
https://churchrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/display-pdf.jsp?pdfName=d-277-3-12-006

A bill in 1894 to dissolve the marriage!
A bit away from James Kelly, the labourer.
I may have gone down a blind alley?

Well done JonW on all you have found. So he was definitely born in 1841.

In case he wasn't born in Ireland, I have checked the British Army births, England and Wales Civil Reg - and Scotland Parish Registers. Sadly no trace of John Edward in any of those.

Irish research can be so frustrating I'm afraid.
Places of interest;
Lancashire, West Yorkshire, Southern Ireland, Scotland.

Kooky

While there is no entry for  a Kelly at 96 North Strand for 1877 in The Irish Times ,I notice that some years later lodgings were offered there. This could have been caused by the international economic recession of the mid 1870s.
Perhaps of greater interest to you is an entry in The Calendar of Ancient Records of Dublin Vol.14 Page 76 where a John Boshell made an unsuccessful bid for the letting of tolls and customs for 1 year from Michaelmas 1788.

Thanks Pennines.
Not looking so good for the Kelly - Boshell marriage, if James the father of the Kelly girls was a clerk, he would have had to have been able to write!

Any more contributions?

Susan’s death in 1882 perhaps?

https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/deaths_returns/deaths_1882/06386/4833168a.pdf

Thanks, heywood.
Susan died at 6 Charlemont Parade
I wonder who the informant was? Mary Jane Kelly of the same address!
I thought she was supposed to have married William Gerald Milligan in 1876!
