I'm confused, how did Jemima Taylor with father Thomas become Jemima Elton with father David?
Berks / Oxon: Eltham, Annetts, Wiltshire (surname not county), Hawkins, Pembroke, Partridge
Dorset / Hants: Derham, Stride, Purkiss, Sibley
Yorkshire: Pottage, Carr, Blackburn, Depledge
Sussex: Goodyer, Christopher, Trevatt
Lanark: Scott (soldier went to Jersey CI)
Jersey: Fowler, Huelin, Scott

We are only considering it, nothing has yet been proved  :)

The genealogy subscription I use keeps showing me other people's trees with who I believe this gentlemen to be in them, and all of them show a different set of parents to where I keep ending up.

I doubt that he is the son of George ELTON (a Baker) and Emily HEARN.

ELTON, GEORGE
Mother's maiden surname: HEARN

George is with the family in 1861 but not 1871.

Thanks Debra. I didn't think to look at deaths!! All those trees have just married him to Betsy Shortland and I thought it was me missing something obvious.

Thank you all so much for your help.

Looking at the Taylor census returns  the 1861 has her status as unmarried. If she was married to a Mr Elton why has she never put his name on any baptisms. I am going to look into Maria Taylor possibly being in a 2nd marriage to try and explain the surname change.

Look at earlier children as on 1841 I posted earlir - reply numbers are not showing up.
1871 White family looks good

the trouble with on line trees is that one person finds some slightly plausible connection they all follow like piranhas to a feeding frenzy.

George on his marriage cert said his father was also George - labourer. So the lazy "genealogists"  connect him to a George  son of George (occ baker) born a few years earlier mmn Hearn and registered in the wrong registration district  for an Isleworth birth. Never mind they've added another branch to their tree and gone back another generation so who cares if it's actually right.
Some people are so resistant to believing that THEIR  ancestor was - horror of horrors - ILLEGITIMATE
