Size help please
« on: Wednesday 30 December 20 19:21 GMT (UK) »
I had some photos taken at a motorcycle race by a professional photographer and ordered some which were down loaded.
The dimensions on all are 2150 x 1433
I want to print one off to go in a 10 x 8 frame which seems to be 20 x 25 cms.
I'm not sure how to make sure they will fit correctly,  they will be done on A4 size paper.

Thanks.

Hello wilcoxen,

The nearest print size for those pixels is a 7 x 5 inch print which is 2100 x 1500 pixels ratio 1.4. A 10 x 8 inch frame is 3000 x 2400 ratio 1.25 which means that the image to fit would have to be cropped a little. You are best to sent the image to a photo printing company it will then be printed on proper photo paper for you, it will last longer than a a4 print off the computer.

Regards

Sarah

If you are unsure, why not put them on to a memory stick and take them into a photographer to be printed to suit your requirements.

Thanks, but Sarah I`ve no idea what that means, the only shop close to me closed as it`s none essential. BŁ%&*y Covid.
I`ll have a go but am not expecting perfection.   Then will try the shop when it reopens.
Happy New Year.

I use a https://dscolourlabs.co.uk for the printing of my photographs. You order the images online, they take only a few days to arrive by post.

You pick the photographic paper size that you wish and you then upload your image, if you image is a slightly different aspect ratio it will show you how it looks on the paper you can then either crop the image to fit or change the paper size to fit.

Hope that this helps

I tried printing it off , quality was good  but the size was wrong , it came out 20.5 x 17 .
Ive had a look at various sites and it looks like the ratio for 10x8 is 5 x 4.
I found an Adobe site which  edits  for free,  so used the 5 x 4 option which cropped a bit off either side.
I suppose I could have done that on my own photo editor  on my PC .
To be honest i`m not really sure about  size , ratio, etc. so does this sound right to you.

 Thanks for your help.

Ok so I found a crop ratio thingummyjig on the Photo Editor on my PC and  there was a 8 x 10 option.
 I  used this .
 Dimensions are  still 2150 x 1433.
Does this sound right.

When you go to print it from your pc, are there options in the printer software for paper size and scaling? If so it may be worth playing around with those (mine gives a 'preview' as each option is selected so I have an idea about how the print will look)

I just looked at a similar sized image on my computer and clicked to print it. It doesn't just auto print
but brings up a print options screen.

 I have options to choose
orientation: portrait or landscape,
paper size:  e.g. 8x10 OR 8x10 borderless

Then an option to 'scale the image' by putting in a % of the original size.
OR to 'scale to fit' the chosen paper size with further options to print the entire image or fill the entire paper.

I don't need a printed copy of this image so just cancelled out of it, but what I can see on the preview screen seems to give the sort of result you are looking for.
