After a Photo of Loxbeare Manor, Loxbeare, Devon
« on: Sunday 03 January 21 16:19 GMT (UK) »
Hello

I am looking  for a photo of Loxbeare Manor, Loxbeare in Devon.

My direct ancestor Daniel Cudmore bought it in 1600 and I have traced the Cudmore family back to Loxbeare and can't find a photo or any information on the history of Loxbeare Manor or where it is.  I wondered if it has been demolished.  I would welcome help in finding a photo of Loxbeare Manor.

Thanks

In the Doomsday Book Loxbeare is recorded as Lochesbera.

Why don't you contact Devon CC to see what history they have?

Loxbeare itself sits on the A361, a few miles NW of Tiverton.

The only other information I can find is on GenUKI.
"The manor was purchased in 1600 by D. Cudmore, whose last descendant in the male line (Daniel Cudmore esq.) died in 1703. Sir Charles Thomas Dyke Acland bart. of Killerton, is the present lord of the manor and sole landowner."

Finally, I found this on Wikipedia:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Manor_of_Molland#de_Champeaus
See the paragraph headed "de Champeaus"

The old map of Loxbear(e) doesn't show a Manor but it does show Loxbear Barton

Which is a Grade II listed C17 building.
