Rev James Thomas McLear, Ardstraw

I am researching the Rev James Thomas McLear (1768 – not known), married to Mary Magrath (1772 – 1864).  He has some connection with the Church of Ireland parish of Ardstraw, in Co Tyrone. His son Thomas was born in the Rectory at Moyle Glebe, Ardstraw in 1794, though Rev James himself doesn’t appear in the published list of Rectors of that parish. Wife Mary died in the Rectory in 1864.

Crockfords Clerical Directory appears to only start c 1860.  Are the earlier records of Church of Ireland/England Ministers careers?

The McLear family generally were high achievers with several listed in Wikipedia and one was a distinguished astronomer who has a blue plaque in Newtownstewart, but it’s Rev James I am particularly interested in at present. Where was he born, educated and where did he serve as a Minister? What was his connection with Ardstraw since he doesn’t appear to have served there, and I don’t see any obvious connection with any of the incumbents via his wife.
