There was a workhouse in the parish of St, Philip & St Jacob, not all the por were housed in it though. Some were receiving relief at home, known as "out" poor. I would think that "in" poor are those living in the workhouse.

Thats exciting.I remember my mother saying her grandparents had to go to bed as soon as it got dark.Thank you for clearing it up for me,have to find the alms houses now!
